MULTIPLE JOBS TAX CALCULATOR

Use our Multiple Jobs Tax Calculator Australia to estimate how earning income from two or more jobs may affect your PAYG withholding and final tax position. Add each job, choose the pay frequency, select where you claim the tax-free threshold, and see your estimated combined income, tax withheld, Medicare levy and potential tax refund or shortfall.

NOTE

Each pay amount is first converted to an annual income using its selected frequency. The calculator estimates the PAYG tax withheld by each employer according to whether that job claims the tax-free threshold. It then adds all annual incomes together to calculate your combined income tax and Medicare levy. Estimated withholding is compared with the combined tax liability to show a possible refund or tax shortfall.

Close estimate only: This calculator estimates Australian resident income tax and simplified PAYG withholding for salary and wage income. Actual employer withholding may differ from ATO payroll tax tables because of pay-period rounding, allowances, deductions, tax offsets, HELP debts, Medicare levy adjustments, private health insurance, residency status and other circumstances. It is not financial or tax advice.

  1. Add your jobs: Enter the pay amount and pay frequency for up to six jobs.
  2. Set the tax-free threshold: Choose whether you claim the tax-free threshold for each job.
  3. Choose your result period: View your calculation weekly, fortnightly, monthly or yearly.
  4. Check your combined result: See your estimated income, PAYG withholding, take-home pay and possible refund or shortfall.

Note: Results are estimates based on the income and tax-free threshold settings you enter.

Calculate Tax Across Up to Six Jobs

Add each PAYG job separately instead of trying to combine your payslips yourself.

For every job, enter your gross income, choose the pay frequency and select whether you claim the tax-free threshold. Our calculator then brings those figures together into one estimated tax position.

You can use it for:

  • A main job and a second job
  • Two or more part-time jobs
  • Multiple casual jobs
  • A full-time job plus casual or seasonal work
  • Up to six PAYG jobs at the same time

For example, enter $70,000 per year from your main job and $20,000 per year from your second job. Our calculator combines them into $90,000 of annual employment income before estimating your overall tax position.

Set the Tax-Free Threshold for Each Job

Choose the tax-free-threshold setting separately for every job you add.

If your combined annual income is expected to exceed the $18,200 tax-free threshold, you would generally claim the threshold from one payer, usually the employer paying you the highest salary or wage.

For example:

Job 1: $55,000 per year — tax-free threshold claimed
Job 2: $18,000 per year — tax-free threshold not claimed

Enter those settings into our calculator to see how they affect estimated PAYG withholding across both jobs.

If you select the tax-free threshold for multiple jobs, our calculator can also alert you to the selection so you can review your settings.

Note: Different arrangements may apply if you are certain your total income from all payers for the financial year will remain at or below $18,200.

Check Your Combined PAYG Withholding and Tax

Each employer may withhold PAYG tax based on the income that employer pays you, but your overall tax position depends on your combined taxable income.

Our calculator does the comparison for you.

For example, with a $70,000 main job + $20,000 second job, it combines the income to $90,000 and compares the estimated PAYG withheld across the two jobs with the estimated tax liability on the combined income.

This lets you check the relationship between what may be withheld during the year and what your combined income may mean for your overall tax position.

Estimate a Possible Tax Refund or Shortfall

After adding your jobs, check the Estimated Outcome in your combined summary.

Depending on your inputs, our calculator may show:

  • An estimated refund
  • An estimated tax shortfall
  • A balanced estimated position

If estimated PAYG withholding is lower than your calculated combined tax liability, the difference appears as a possible shortfall. If estimated withholding is higher, the result may indicate a possible refund.

This gives you an early estimate instead of waiting until tax time to discover that your withholding may not match your combined tax position.

Note: The result is an estimate and does not guarantee the refund or tax bill on your final tax assessment.

Calculate Extra Withholding for an Estimated Shortfall

If our calculator identifies a possible shortfall, it goes one step further by showing an approximate amount of extra withholding that could cover the estimated difference.

You can see the additional amount as:

  • Weekly
  • Fortnightly
  • Monthly

For example, if your calculated shortfall were $3,400, spreading that amount across the year would be approximately $65 per week, $131 per fortnight or $283 per month.

This turns the shortfall estimate into a practical figure you can use when considering whether to request additional withholding.

Note: These amounts are estimates only. Your actual tax position may change because of deductions, offsets, other income and individual circumstances.

View All Your Jobs in One Tax Summary

Once you enter your jobs, our calculator gives you both a combined result and a job-by-job breakdown.

Your combined summary can show:

  • Combined gross income
  • Estimated income tax
  • Estimated Medicare levy
  • Low Income Tax Offset where applicable
  • Combined estimated tax liability
  • Estimated PAYG withheld
  • Estimated take-home pay
  • Possible refund or shortfall

You can also review each job separately to see its annualised gross income, tax-free-threshold selection, estimated withholding and estimated net pay.

This helps you check the individual jobs without losing sight of your combined position.

Switch Between Weekly, Fortnightly, Monthly and Yearly Results

Choose how you want to view your calculation without rebuilding it for each pay period.

Our Multiple Jobs Tax Calculator lets you switch between weekly, fortnightly, monthly and yearly results.

For example, you might use the yearly view to check your overall tax position and then switch to fortnightly to relate the result to your usual pay cycle.

Test Different Multiple-Job Scenarios: Real-Life Examples

Your income or work arrangements may change during the year. Update the jobs in our calculator and calculate again to see how a different setup may affect the estimate.

You could use it to check what happens when you:

  • Start a second job
  • Add a third casual job
  • Earn more from one existing job
  • Change the pay frequency of a job
  • Change where you claim the tax-free threshold

Because you can add up to six jobs, you are not limited to a simple main-job-and-second-job calculation.
